The (I) Dos
Do serve amazing food, but keep it light.
The one thing that never mixes at a summer wedding is the heat and heavy food. Imagine spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread — delicious? Of course. Bound to break a sweat? Yep!
Consider a lighter fare such as grilled fish or chicken and a variety of salads — from pasta salads and fruit salads to everyone’s favorite, kale salads!
For drinks, you can’t go wrong with frozen cocktails, and everyone loves a classic apple pie in lieu of a traditional wedding cake.

Do provide shelter.
Heat relief is a vital detail to your summer wedding, no matter how many sun worshippers you’ve invited. People will greatly appreciate an escape to the heat, especially if alcohol and dancing are involved. Most tent rentals come equipped with portable ACs, but sometimes just moving air from a couple of fans will do the trick.
If you really want to go the extra mile to keep your guests cool and cozy, have ice towels available and plenty of water stations throughout.
Tip: To ensure that boutonnieres, corsages, and bouquets look phenomenal, take to your florist about making backups. Because flowers are so fragile to the summer heat, you may want the added protection. After all, you don’t want saggy and lackluster blooms in your photos, do you?!
Do dress for the occasion.
It’s summer, breathable attire is a must! If your dream is to be decked out in layers of lace or other traditional wedding attire for the ceremony, consider changing into something far more comfortable and cool for everything after. Also, think cooler fabrics such as linen and khaki or silk and chiffon.
The Don’ts
Don’t skip SPF or bug spray.
Forego being a literal blushing bride and apply sun protection before being out and about in the sun all day. Plus, there are many amazing cosmetics companies that have crafted BB creams or sheer moisturizers with SPF to wear under your wedding makeup.
A great touch would be to add sunblock and bug spray as by putting them on guest’s chairs or with a goodie bag when they arrive.
Tip: If your venue allows it, light citronella candles or tiki torches to evade bugs — these work well on tables and around the perimeter of the party. There are also a variety of essential oils that defend against bugs so you could place a couple of diffusers around the area to keep the bugs at bay.
Don’t have your wedding ceremony at peak sun hours. 
The sun is the highest and brightest between 10 am and 2 pm, and while it’s good to avoid a noontime wedding, it’s not always in the cards.
If you can, do your best to plan for a later wedding that starts around 5 pm. This way you can schedule cocktails or dinner at sunset and dance the night away — all when things are a little bit cooler.
Tip: Keep guests extra cool by providing paper fans during the ceremony and umbrellas and cooling areas (misting tents are wonderful) in the interim.
Don’t skip Save The Dates
Sure, it’s the summer, but not everyone has time off, and if they do, they might have already scheduled a vacation. It’s important to always send out Save The Dates to give everyone time to mark your wedding on their calendars for the summer.
There are many dos and don’ts you can follow from serving light food and providing refuge from the sun to making bug spray available and planning your wedding in the early evening to avoid peak sun hours.
At the end of the day, it’s all about creating a comfortable atmosphere so you and your guests are centered on how amazing everything is and not distracted by being overly sweaty or worried about a bad sunburn.
